The College of Medical Science and Technology (CoMST) currently consists of one undergraduate department, two graduate institutes, two master's degree program, and five doctoral degree programs. It encompasses five major areas of specialization: Medical Science and Biotechnology, Biomedical Informatics, Cancer Biology and Drug Discovery, Neuroscience, and Translational Medicine.
The CoMST was established in 2010, building upon the foundation of the School's Department of Medical Laboratory Science and Biotechnology and the Institute of Biomedical Informatics in medical applications. Starting in 2010, it collaborated with two major academic research institutions in Taiwan, the National Health Research Institutes (NHRI) and the Academia Sinica, to offer three doctoral degree programs: "Cancer Molecular Biology and Drug Discovery," "Medicine Neuroscience," and "Translational Medicine." Additionally, in 2015, 2017, 2020, and 2022, the college established the "Ph.D. Program in Medical Biotechnology," "Graduate Institute of Cancer Biology and Drug Discovery (Master)," "International Ph.D. Program for Translational Science," and "International Master Program in Medicine Neuroscience," respectively. In February 2023, the college will integrate its five major areas of specialization and degree programs into the Shuang-Ho campus, establishing close connections with Shuang-Ho Hospital and the international Biodesign program to construct an international Shuang-Ho Park jointly, cultivating biomedical talents with a global perspective and creating a benchmark institution with international influence and competitiveness.
The School of Medical Laboratory Science and Biotechnology, established in 1965, has cultivated thousands of outstanding alumni with great performance in industry, government, academia and research fields. The school provides diverse and solid experimental medicine-related courses and practical training. It focuses on cultivating clinical laboratory talents, supplemented by biotechnology industry R&D personnel and medical researchers. In 2015, the newly established doctoral program in medical biotechnology brought life science research into a new era.
