Abstract
International migrant workers are an integral part of the world economy and social development, may face more mental health challenges. Indonesia is one of the migrants in the Asia-Pacific region, and Taiwan is a major destination for International migrant workers from Indonesia. Thus, this study aimed to identify factors associated with depression among Indonesian migrant workers and to explore the life and well-being profile of Indonesian migrant workers in Taiwan by gender. This study used cross-sectional data from 1031 Indonesian migrant workers in Taiwan and to identify related factors were used a logistic regression analysis. Measurements used were questionnaire assessed socio-demographic characteristics, health, living and work, depression, life and work, life style and perceived discrimination. This research examined demographic characteristics, life and work, health and life style and perceived discrimination stratified by gender. Bivariate analysis of respondent characteristics was conducted with a Chi-squared test. The results for the first study, about 15% of international migrant workers had depressive symptoms There were significant factors associated with depression were age, educational level, frequent contact with families, self-rated health, time spent in Taiwan, region of work, satisfied with living environment, and able to go out when not working and this research identified those who are more likely to suffer from depression. While, second study which presents a profile of women to be more isolated and had worse experiences than men. Comparisons between men and women showed that women tended to have worse health, more unmet needs, less time for leisure activities, less time on the internet and women showed that women experienced much more discrimination. As high as 21.4% of women have been threatened or harassed, and 28.7% of women have been treated with less courtesy than others
