Abstract
This project is an anthropological investigation into the relationship between industrial air pollution as a health threat and the ongoing socio-cultural change of a steel mill community in Taranto, Southern Italy. Through ethnographic analysis, I seek to explore the implication of the localized understandings of industrial pollution-related pathologies and how they are imbricated in the wider historical and political structures that prevent most people of Taranto from taking action against industrial pollution, thus forcing them to perpetrate their own suffering.
