Inflammation and vascular dysfunction have been suggested as contributing factors in its pathogenesis. C-reactive protein (CRP), a systemic inflammatory marker, has emerged as a candidate of interest, though existing evidence remains inconsistent. This meta-analysis aims to explore the relationship between CRP levels and NTG. Methods: A systematic search of PubMed, Embase, and Scopus was performed to identify observational studies published before October 2023 that compared CRP levels between NTG patients and healthy controls. Studies with quantitative CRP data were included. Standardized mean differences (SMDs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated using a random-effects model. Heterogeneity was assessed using the I² statistic. Results: Ten case-control studies involving 838 participants were included. The pooled analysis indicated that CRP levels were higher in NTG patients compared to controls (SMD: 0.736; 95% CI: 0.149–1.323; P < 0.05). No significant difference was observed between primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) patients and controls (SMD: -0.077; 95% CI: -0.334–0.181; P = 0.559). Conclusion: The findings suggest a potential association between elevated CRP levels and NTG, supporting the hypothesis that systemic inflammation may be involved in its pathogenesis. Further research is needed to better understand this relationship and its clinical implications.系所名稱:國際醫學研究碩士學位學程The Correlation between C-reactive protein and Normal Tension Glaucoma disease: A meta-analysisThe Correlation between C-reactive protein and Normal Tension Glaucoma disease: A meta-analysisthesis
